A distant gaze protected by a nearby boundary of forest, watched over with pride and attention by the Castello di Monsanto.
As you walk towards the top of Il Poggio, you’ll instantly feel the energy that drew Giuliana and Fabrizio Bianchi to this place.
Up on the hill, you can breathe in the fresh air blown in from the sea, providing sustenance to the varied and long-lived vegetation.
When you close your eyes, you can sense the inspiration that seduced Fabrizio and prompted him to believe in this area.
THE MAIN BUILDING
Majestic and austere, the main building dates back to 1740. It enjoys a stunning view out over the landscape, which extends for miles and miles in every direction. Statues of female figures are dotted around the garden, gazing out on the view which can be enjoyed from the large terrace. It feels like a memory of a time that has passed – but not completely.
Located around the main building are smaller ones, including the Vinsantaia, home to precious treasures that must be patiently awaited. Amid the silence of the kegs resting one on top of the other, with the light filtering quietly through the two doors – which are always open in the day to encourage constant air flow -, this is one of the most magical and symbolic places at Castello di Monsanto.
A little further away is the amphitheater, which embraces the large garden. It’s the ideal place to host guests for tastings of Castello di Monsanto wines.
